More Presidential excerpts
Today I reviewed troops in charge of the cannons. The “I admire your balls” line never gets old despite what McClellan says - A. Lincoln
Met Grant in person for the first time tonight. A few beer bombs later and I felt like we were old friends. Gives good hugs. - A. Lincoln
If I’m really being honest, the hat was a last minute purchase when they said there’d be no...

Truthful Tuesday and latest thoughts/news
5 is done with Pre-K which means that this is the last summer before he faces real school related pressures.
6 only has a week left of school. He’s handled 1st grade very well.
Teacher for 6 sent us an e-mail asking us to attend the end of year assembly as 6 will be receiving a Citizen Award for his class.
If last report card is an indication, 6 will be getting the video game that...

I blame @TheBosha for my following of @SteveHuff. Before I tell you how awesome Steve is, I’ll give a piece of advice. If you want to know who is writing excellent stuff on Twitter check out @TheBosha’s most favs page on Favstar.

Presidential Diary Excerpts
Decided I wanted to get the presidential diary excerpts I’d posted on Twitter all together.
“I cut it down because of the fucking pollen” - diary excerpt G. Washington
“Mary bought a new 8’ bed for the guest room. Toying with idea of introducing internship program.” - diary excerpt A. Lincoln

Wrong Holiday, Right Truthful Tuesday
I’ve been cleaning old files off the hard drive that have been collected over the lifetime of a few computers.
I came across this blurb that I had typed up a little over 10 years ago when I was remembering the first Christmas without my Grandmother.
It may be about a different time of year, but it does share a little bit about me and how I grew up.

In our family,...
Snaps and Whistles
Today I watched my five year old explaining to his preschool friend how to snap. It’s one of those accomplishments like learning to whistle that seems small and insignificant at first glance. But I remember lying in bed as a kid, sorting out which finger to use and how much pressure. I made the classic rookie mistake of thinking it was my index finger for much longer than I care to admit.
It was...
My first Truthful Tuesday post.
Spring Break approaches, and with it comes my annual “what I plan to accomplish list”. I have a number of projects that from this distance look quite doable. Yet, by the end of the week, I’ll be asking myself what I was thinking by wanting to tackle even a few let alone all of them.
I have virtually no work coming in right now, so my time is devoted almost exclusively to...

Deluded
My Twitter client on the iPhone keeps crashing when I try to open it. I’m thinking it’s because so many people are trying to read my timeline at once.
I Don't LOL
I don’t mean that I don’t type LOL (although I seldom do). I mean that I almost never laugh out loud.
I love humor and it’s often what I turn to in order to diffuse a tense situation. It’s what I tend to gravitate towards on Twitter as evidenced by the people I follow.
I love to bandy words back and forth and often find myself smiling during exchanges.
But I almost never...

Facebook 3rd party relationships: As a user, I’ve never been the focus of Mark’s intent, merely a piece of it. I don’t begrudge him trying to make actual money rather than “on paper” money. But Mark is also only a piece...

Let he who casts the first stone celebrate.
I like that my boys (4 and 6) are up for celebrations of all sorts. I was surprised this weekend by a trip to a local restaurant called Artie’s.
The reason for the celebration? The passing of my kidney stone. I have no problem with celebrating something like that. The pain was sudden, awful, and intense. I’d been given 20cc of morphine before we got to the ER. The nurse told me that...

Book Fairs and Bathrooms
Tonight we went to our 6 year old’s book fair at his elementary school. This was the big night he’d been looking forward to for the past couple of weeks. He’s had his eye on several books and I’d been strategizing around the best way to work with him on thinning the list down. The thought being we already have a lot of books plus my wife and I had already bought some to...

When a Mystery Isn't a Mystery.
I’ve mentioned before on Twitter that I’m a big fan of Peter Falk and specifically the “Columbo” detective series that he starred in. It was an unusual type of series in that there were gaps between seasons and even shows as it was in a rotation with other shows like “McMillan and Wife” and “McCloud”. They were also of a longer duration often running 1.5 to 2 hours.
The first “Columbo” hit TV as...

Do You Mind Changing?
“It has become a sarcastic proverb that a thing must be true if you saw it in a newspaper. That is the opinion intelligent people have of that lying vehicle in a nutshell. But the trouble is that the stupid people—who constitute the grand overwhelming majority of this and all other nations—do believe and are moulded [sic] and convinced by what they get out of a newspaper, and there is...

Big O & Dukes - they belong together
For those not familiar there was a terrestrial radio show called Big O & Dukes that has appeared in several markets, among them Baltimore and Phoenix. I was introduced to them when they came to the DC market and started broadcasting on 106.7 WJFK FM. A little over a year ago, the station flipped format to sports talk. Almost all of the shows went away, including Big O & Dukes.
I’ve...

A crossroads
I apologize in advance that you won’t find anything humorous or perhaps interesting in this post. It’s more a way for me to put down some thoughts and feelings on some upcoming changes.
There are times that I’m stunned with how expansive the summer vacation time appears to be at the end of the school year. And yet, it seems to take no more than a summer cold and a visit with family to find that...

Do you hear what I hear?
Here’s a quick medical lesson for those of you who have not had children. Bilirubin is one of the levels that pediatricians are concerned about when it comes to a newborn baby. It’s something that they will test for when the baby is only a day old and still in the hospital.
Conjugated bilirubin is excreted into the bile by the liver and stored in the gall bladder or transferred directly to the...

Letters make a difference.
Letters from Ed McMahon once offered the chance to quit your job and to appear on national television during the super bowl. You were then handed a check for a huge amount of money. You would then receive more letters from people who remembered developing lasting bonds of friendship. This bond more often than not appears to have been forged when the two of you stood...
